Architect Carl Fraser, art historian Peter Ashan and artist Frances Bowman invite you to make a creative response to the Black Lives Matter Movement at Monoux. You will produce a student-led response to this global movement. It will be a highly visible artwork installed on site to promote further discussion and deepen understanding across the college community.
We are looking for 20 students from across the pathways to come together, research the Black Lives Matter movement and its history, and learn about ways artists have already responded.
You will be invited to share and discuss your own experiences and ask your own questions. Out of these discussions, we will work together to create a visual response and install it on site.
Commitment from you: 20th - 31st July, Mon-Fri, 11.45-3.55pm. 2 weeks full time in college engaging in workshops, bringing your experiences and your passion, listening and learning from others, taking part in practical sessions and installing the design you have created.
Commitment from us: You will gain skills in project work, teamwork and architectural working practices. You will gain knowledge and understanding of the issues and history behind BLM. We will support you to make a site-specific artwork that is impactful and professional. We will respect your experiences and your desire for change, whoever you are.
